Gov. Ricketts, First Lady Debut 2023 Nebraska License Plate Design
It's LINCOLN – The new general-issue Nebraska licence plate was unveiled today by Governor Pete Ricketts and First Lady Susanne Shore. Based on artwork in the Nebraska Capitol Building, the mosaic depicts the Genius of Creative Energy.
Beginning with the original "Genius of Creative Energy" mosaic, an array of mosaics has been installed around the Nebraska Capitol to connect the state's past with the ideals that shaped Western Civilization. With a lightning bolt in his hand, Hildreth Meiere's Genius is propelled across the sky by harnessing all four elements and soaring to new heights.
As a tribute to this genius and all the mosaics in our Capitol depicting our shared history, we've designed a licence plate in his honour. Drew Davies, a brand and design consultant based in Nebraska, created it. A licence plate honouring the creative energy of all Nebraskans has been a truly humbling experience for me." "Davies was the first to speak up.
Mrs. Shore expressed her gratitude to all of the Nebraskans who have provided her with suggestions and ideas over the years. Finally, we came up with a design that represents Nebraskans as a whole. Thanks to Drew's creative genius, our state's own has never looked so good."

The First Lady also revealed plans to release video footage of the mosaics around the Capitol during today's announcement. To coincide with the release of the new licence plates, the videos are expected to be made available.
Nebraska law mandates that a new licence plate be designed and implemented every six years. To begin distribution in January 2023, the plates are being manufactured. All standard licence plates are replaced by the county treasurer the month after the vehicle registration expires for owners of vehicles with these plates. Currently, there are about 1.3 million vehicles on the road in the state. For the first time, the mosaics that surround the Nebraska Capitol are all linked together to connect the state's history to Western Civilization. It was designed by Hildreth Meiere, a world-renowned artist, and the Genius is propelled across the sky by the power of the four elements.
To honour this Genius and all the mosaics depicting our shared history, we created a licence plate design that pays homage to this Genius. During today’s announcement, the First Lady also shared plans to release video footage showcasing the mosaics around the Capitol. The videos will most likely be unveiled at the same time as the new licence plates, if not sooner.
